I've been starting, growing, advising, coaching, and investing in technology startup businesses for over 20 years. I'm a 3-time founder with 3 exits, including a Nasdaq IPO and two acquisitions by strategics. I'm also a husband, dad of 2 great kids, dual Canadian/British citizen, and have lived and worked in the US, Canada, UK, and Japan.
Since my most recent exit to MailChimp (now owned by Intuit) in 2019, I have devoted the majority of my time to working as an advisor, coach, consultant, and board director to startups to help them grow faster.
I have also grown my investment portfolio to 40+ companies. My recent investments have been into companies where I initially start out as an advisor/coach/director, as I've learned that this gives both me and the founders the ability to confirm there is a good long-term fit for me to add value to their business.
My advising/coaching and any subsequent investment is primarily on mission-driven founders in areas where I have a lot of experience and the ability to add value. These areas include Enterprise and SMB SaaS, Security, Fintech, Salestech, Martech, and eCommerce technology with an increasing emphasis on AI as a core component.
I opportunistically advise/coach in other areas where I see an opportunity to support companies that are helping help people work better, live better, and improve the future prospects of our planet for the generations to come.
I've had direct experience as a serial founder raising over $200M across seed, growth, late stage, and IPO (NASDAQ) as well as a growing network of angel investors and VCs who I have invested with.
I've got many years of experience leading all aspects of market, product, and brand strategy for early, growth, and late-stage businesses.
I have led GTM strategy and BD, Marketing, Sales, and Channel functions across multiple early and growth-stage businesses with a variety of go-to-market strategies.
From the earliest stages, your business model and pricing strategy are a series of experiments to find product market fit, after which you will continue to iterate to drive improved unit economics and profitability. I have had the benefit of leading pricing strategy across businesses at all stages, and helping many more as they experiment and refine theirs.
I've seen all the growing pains of growing from 2 or 3 founders in a basement to teams of 15-20 post-seed, to 50-100 or more in growth grounds, up to 1500+ in public and private companies. Scaling your team the right way is critical to success, and making poor team and hiring decisions, especially at the early stages can often do the most damage.
I've been in your shoes and have also sat on multiple boards, so as an investor and/or board member my priority is to partner to help make you and the business you're working hard to build a success.
